Light of the Harem 1880 | Frederic Leighton – Image details

This is one of Leighton’s 1st paintings to feature Dorothy Dene, a favored model in the later part of his artistic career. It harks back to eastern subject material that Leighton painted after his visit to capital of Syria in the fall of 1873. the use of the western models highlights that Leighton wasn’t trying to represent an actual scene or specific event.
