Rafael Sottolichio | Colorful Abstract Swirls
Sottolichio Rafael was born in Santiago (Chile) in 1972. After university studies in Santiago between 1989 and 1991, he obtained a Bachelor of Fine Arts (1996) and a Master in Visual and Media Arts (2008) from the University of Quebec in Montreal.
His work was the subject of a retrospective with publication in the exhibition center Expression in Saint-Hyacinthe in 2007. We find the artist’s works in many public and private collections in America and Europe. He lives and works in Montreal since 1976.
Rafael Sottolichio immigrated to Montreal at a very young age. Since completing his studies , he has been exhibiting his painting in numerous galleries and showrooms . He creates portraits that visualize fantastic hallucinatory experiences.
This mural, created with the help of Olivier Roy, celebrates the 20th anniversary of the World Trade Centre in Montreal. The composition of the work depicts, on the left, the modern south building and to the right, the facade of the Saint-Antoine street building.
The kaleidoscope at the center of the work is composed of a montage of images representing the glass atrium, creating a visual architectural play in the corner of two walls. Silhouettes of pedestrians become characters in this stage and come to life in these offset decors.
The artist explores a rich and full respect of different contrasts put-en-scenes of an imaginary spectacle of solitude. Inspired by places , by a show, or by the news, the artist creates complex images inhabited a sense of urgency. Archipelagos The exhibition brings together a corpus of paintings and works on paper from 2010 to 2012.
